We're staying in the cabins, what should we bring?

The cabins are rustic with 2 cots included. There are no washrooms or electricity. They are all in close proximity to the main lodge and there are shared washrooms there - not to worry! You'll find shared washrooms on the first and second floor of the lodge.

We suggest that you bring the following items:

  • a flashlight
  • sleeping bag / blanket
  • small pillow (or, what we've done before is bring a pillowcase and put all your clothes inside to act as your pillow)
  • light foamy, thermarest, or air mattress, if you're willing to travel with them

What's the deal with food for the weekend?

We are hosting a BBQ on Friday night (mostly hotdogs, hamburgers, and maybe some fish), Saturday is the wedding (appetizers and dinner), and on Sunday, Phil Weir (father of the groom) will be making a pancake breakfast for all guests -- see 'Schedule' for more information!

For all other meals, we suggest going to the supermarket to pick up what you'd like to eat. The supermarket is in town which is a 20 minute drive from the lodge.

There is a large kitchen and a couple of BBQ's, you're welcome to use them whenever you'd like!

What's transportation like on the island?

It's a small island so it's limited, however, there is a bus and 1 cab on the island.

Gertie - bus service, it'll loop around the whole island.

Gabriola Island Taxi - (250) 247-0049

There will be cars on the property, you're welcome to borrow one to get around the island.

Is there a liquor store on the island?

Yes, there are two and they're both in town.

BC Liquor Store - regulated by the province and often cheaper than the private liquor stores.

Village Liquor Store - a private operation.

If you're taking the ferry over, it would be wise to stop off at either of those liquor stores (and the grocery store) before heading to the property / your accommodation.

What about getting ready for the wedding?

Is there a dress code?

For those who have a room with full bathroom, we ask that you share the washrooms with guests who are staying in the cabins. This is especially important for the day of the wedding.

As mentioned before, there are shared washrooms on the first and second floor of the lodge.

No, there is no dress code. We would like you to be comfortable and happy, no need for a full suit! I know many of the women will be wearing dresses. If you would like to dress up a bit, a button down shirt will do just fine! Don't worry about a tie unless you'd like to look a bit more formal (which is also fine!)

What's there to do on Gabriola?

Gabriola is a small but beautiful island that has lots to offer in the summertime. Here's what we suggest:
